In a heated exchange, Israel's Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, lashed out at Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, for his controversial remarks comparing the treatment of Muslims in India to that in Gaza. Azar's response followed India's firm rejection of Khamenei’s comments, which New Delhi had earlier dismissed as "misinformed and unacceptable."

"You are a killer and oppressor of your own people," Azar said, addressing Khamenei directly. "Muslims in Israel, India, and all democracies enjoy freedoms that are denied in Iran. I hope the people of Iran will be free soon."

Khamenei’s remarks, made during the Islamic Unity Week, where he addressed Iran’s Sunni leaders, grouped India with Gaza, referring to the alleged suffering of Muslims. “We cannot consider ourselves Muslims if we are indifferent to the suffering of our brothers in Myanmar, Gaza, India, or elsewhere,” the Iranian leader had said.

India swiftly responded, condemning Khamenei’s statements. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stressed that such remarks were "misinformed" and advised Iran to address its own human rights issues before commenting on others.

This diplomatic clash underscores the increasing tensions between the countries regarding global Muslim concerns and human rights.
